What universities are there for Liverpool students?
The city of Liverpool is home to two prominent universities: the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, as well as the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Liverpool Hope University is a newcomer to the scene, having received university status in July 2005. With all of these study options, the city is particularly student-friendly. It is a wonderful place to meet new people with similar interests.
What do Liverpool students love about the city?
Liverpool was declared the European City of Culture in 2008, and the city’s rich culture draws students from all over the world. You can’t think of Liverpool without thinking about The Beatles, who came from the city in the 1960s, performing at the world-famous Cavern Club. Today, there are Fab Four monuments and nods all throughout the city.
Liverpool’s music culture
Liverpool’s music culture is still very much alive and well today. The city’s strong musical tradition includes Gerry and The Pacemakers, Cilla Black, The Lightning Seeds, and The La’s, in addition to The Beatles. Some of the venues where these performers initially played are still in operation today, as are larger arenas such as the O2 Academy Liverpool and M&S Bank, previously known as the Echo Arena.
The Cavern Club still presents live bands, and the Arts Club on Seel Street is an excellent spot to listen to live music while eating. The ‘Bombed Out Church’ of St Luke’s, which was badly destroyed during the 1941 Blitz, is now a venue for theatre, dance, music, film, and spoken word. The award-winning Everyman & Playhouse Theatre is ideal for theatre enthusiasts.
Liverpool culture
For even more culture, visit the Tate Gallery in the Albert Docks district. You will find British art from the 16th century to the present day. Outside of London, the Walker Art Gallery has the most incredible collection of historical art. The Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King are worth visiting. They are the city’s two spectacular but quite distinct cathedrals.
Visitors can tour the building’s historic clock tower and enjoy the city views. Walking through the streets of the city, there are several buildings to admire. From its libraries to the elegant gate of its booming Chinatown. Another topic of discussion is superlambanana. This 17-foot-tall brilliant yellow monument outside LJMU’s Avril Roberts Library resembles a hybrid between a banana and a lamb. Students are likely to spend a lot of time at the Royal Albert Dock. Which is in the heart of Liverpool’s historic Waterfront and home to some of the top restaurants and pubs.
