Didsbury is now considered to be one of the most sought-after places to live in Manchester, offering something for everyone amongst its marvellous greenery and remarkable properties.

Didsbury is home to the highest concentration of listed buildings in Manchester outside of the city centre and it’s now protect by a conservation area. In the 18th Century Didsbury was a collection of thatched-roof cottages with a church and two inns. It was during the 19th century that rich businessmen descended on the suburb and began building villas and country houses nestled in the trees. Many of these buildings still stand today and have been converted into flats and offices.

Didsbury is beautiful and quaint, with a community feel to the suburb. Take a walk through the village to see the historical building Church of St. James which dates back to 1620. There’s a War Memorial for 174 local serviceman who died in the First World War, a further 62 names were added following the Second World War. Thanks to this community spirit there are a number of community events that take place through the year including WestFest, Didsbury Festival, the Didsbury Arts Festival and Didsbury Beer Festival too.

Schools

Bright Horizons Didsbury Day Nursery and Prep School is highly regarded as the stepping stone for children into education. Their latest Ofsted report deemed the school Outstanding. Beaver Road Academy also received an Outstanding on their latest report too, they teach students aged 4-11. Other primary schools in the area include St. Catherine’s RC Primary School, Didsbury Primary School and independent Moor Allerton Prepartory School. Secondary schools in the area include Didsbury High School, Parrs Wood High School and The Barlow RC High School.

Shopping

Didsbury is awash with a wide selection of independent shops and boutiques where you can find unique pieces to fill your home and your wardrobe too. Each month there’s a lively Makers Market held on a Sunday where you can pick up a range of local art, craft, food and drink, as well as enjoy music and street food. It’s a great day out for the family. If you’re planning a wedding, then brides-to-be will want to visit White Closet, an award-winning store that has become a firm favourite of brides in the North West. For ladies not looking for the perfect white dress, but other pieces for their wardrobe there’s The Edit and Kjole, both filled with fashion and accessories to delight. Food & Drink

Another huge drawer to living in Didsbury is the wide variety of options you have for dining out. There’s a plethora of places to enjoy delicious coffees, quick bites or a la carte meals regularly. There’s even a butcher, The Three Little Pigs, a cheesemonger The Cheese Hamlet and a fishmonger Evans of Didsbury where you can buy delicious produce to make at home. Saints and Scholars is a must visit to start your day right with traditional breakfasts and vegetarian options, their outside seating is perfect for those warm and sunny mornings. Albert’s Restaurant and Bar is perfect for an evening out, even if you’re just after cocktails. Parks & Walks

As you can probably imagine in the leafy suburb of Didsbury there’s plenty of places to enjoy a scenic walk. There a number of open spaces to enjoy in the area with Parsonage Gardens and Fletcher Moss Park being incredibly popular with the locals. There’s even Cavendish Park, Marie Louise Gardens and Didsbury Park to allow you to get some fresh air and stretch your legs.

Transport

There are multiple options for travelling in and out of Didsbury, with a ten-minute tram journey that takes you from East Didsbury to Manchester. There’s also the East Didsbury train station which runs trains to Liverpool, Manchester, Crewe, Manchester Airport and Llandudno. The 42 bus route will take you to both Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly with regular slots running through the day. If you prefer to get on your bike for your commute, there’s a cycle lane that runs into Didsbury town.

Entertainment

The biggest entertainment attraction in Didsbury is without a doubt the Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre. There are plenty of options to keep you busy too with a cinema, bowling alley, casino, arcade, pool room, restaurants and even a hotel. Just next door you’ll find the Nuffield Gym which is home to state of the art gym equipment as well as a large swimming pool and relaxing spa facilities too. Food Sorcery Barista and Cookery School is another excellent option for keeping your mind and hands busy, perfect for brushing up on your skills or taking children to learn the basics of cooking. Didsbury Cricket Club is another excellent option for watching a game of cricket, they even host the Didsbury Comedy Club there once a month.
