Schools

Whilst it’s easy to think that city living is not suited to families, there are a wide range of high quality schools in the Manchester city centre area that you have a choice of. Bright Horizons Manchester Day Nursery and Pre School is an ideal choice for children before the age of four. Then once they hit primary school age St Philip’s Church of England is a good choice as well as the Co-Op Academy New Islington, which was given academy status in 2018. Trinity Church of England High School and Sixth Form is an ideal choice for secondary school, their latest Ofsted report deemed the school ‘Outstanding’. For students looking for further education in the city centre Abbey College Manchester is an excellent choice for studying A-Levels.

Shopping

Manchester city centre has an abundance of shopping options to choose from, with independent boutiques offering one-off pieces, beloved high street brands and plenty of designer stores. Manchester Arndale and the Royal Exchange Arcade offer plenty in popular brands, but if you’re looking for something a little more special you’ll find boutiques dotted around Spinningfields, New Cathedral Street and King Street. Head to the Northern Quarter if independent stores and handmade items are more your style. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to vintage stores, record shops and quaint cafes.

Food & Drink

The food and drink scene in Manchester city centre is ever evolving with new must-try places constantly opening up. Whether you’re after a quick bite to eat, delicious vegan food, a cool new independent or ultimate indulgence with Michelen star chefs, there is literally something for everyone in Manchester. Some of the standout places include Dishoom, Tattu, The Ivy, Boujee and 20 Stories Manchester for excellent food and drinks and some pretty amazing views too.

Parks & Walks

Whilst Manchester city centre is a metropolitan hubspot, there are still plenty of green areas to enjoy relaxing in on warm, sunny days, eat your lunch in, or take a scenic walk. Parsonage Gardens is popular amongst office workers, the square is peaceful and relaxed with stunning historic buildings surrounding it. Cathedral Gardens is another beautiful spot not to miss, with landscaped lawns, water features and a play area for children. There’s often something going on here, with parts of the famous Manchester Christmas markets being held here. St. John’s Gardens may be small, but it’s still a pretty space with plenty of benches to park yourself upon. All Saints park and Sackville gardens are even more green spaces you don’t want to miss in Manchester. The latter houses a stature of Alan Turing on one of the benches.

Transport

Manchester has plenty of options for getting in, around or out of the city in terms of transport. There’s the tram lines have 99 stops with a 64 mile length taking you to various points of Manchester including the Trafford Centre, Manchester Airport, Bury, Rochdale, Altrincham and more. The A57 that runs around Manchester City Centre gives you quick and easy access to multiple A roads and motorways to take you out of the city centre. There’s multiple train stations within the city centre too, allowing for travel locally and nationally, there’s Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Deansgate.

Entertainment

Once you’ve visited all of the museums, taken in the art and seen all of the shows, there are even more entertainment spots you can visit in Manchester to fill your spare time with. For fans of the TV show Crystal Maze there’s now a live experience you can try yourself. Virtual Hideout Manchester is another great day out, the virtual reality and gaming centre is ideal for those looking to get lost in another world. Manchester 235 is a Vegas-style casino, Dogbowl offers up games of bowling and Urban Playground is somewhere you can try out ITV’s The Cube, as well as tech-infused mini club, nestled between buzzing bars.
