The leafy suburb is currently under consideration to become a World Heritage site, and there are certain parts of the town centre that are deemed conservation areas. Worsley has nearly 50 listed buildings within its boundaries.
It’s an area with terraced, semi-detached and detached homes, with prices starting from at least £250k for the smallest offerings. It’s not ideally the place you’d buy your first home, but the affluent area is slightly less expensive than what you’d pay in nearby Cheshire. Many of the detached houses go for more than one million pounds, but their stunning architecture and sprawling landscapes ensure they’re worth every penny.
At the end of the Second World War, several large housing estates were built in a bid to rehouse Salford residents, along this saw the development of shops, schools and other facilities. Today, there are new housing developments in progress as Worsley still remains a desirable place to live.
Attractions & Activities
The Bridgewater Canal, known locally as the orange canal, is a popular tourist attraction in the area. The coal mining industry saw Worsley rapidly grow during the Industrial Revolution. Duke of Bridgewater commissioned The Bridgewater Canal so coal could be transported from his mines in Worsley and Boothstown to Salford, Manchester and surrounding areas. Another popular attraction in Worsley is The Worsley Golf Club, founded in 1894, it was later redesigned in the 1930s by the legendary James Braid. Worsley Golf Club is always in immaculate condition with their gentle fairways lined with mature trees, it truly is a beautiful space for a game of golf.

Schools
There isn’t a vast amount of choice for schools from within Worsley itself. Worsley Pre-School is a great choice for younger pupils. St. Mark’s Primary and Mesne Lea Primary are both popular choices for those within the suburb. Secondary school options are a little further afield, they are Moorside High and Co-Op Academy Walkden High. Bridgewater School is a little closer to Worsley, this is a private school teaching children from ages 3-18.
Shopping
Worsley is home to a select amount of independent stores where you can find treasured pieces, unique gifts and special items. Pink Butterfly Boutique is a women’s clothing store as is Worsley Dress Agency where you can pick up items you won’t find on the high street. Gigil.com is a baby store and Desire Soaps and Candles is the place to visit for beautiful gifts. What’s more, just a five-minute drive along the M60 you’ll be in The Trafford Centre, a huge shopping centre that’s filled with your favourite high street and high-end brands, restaurants and plenty of activities to keep the children entertained.
Food & Drink
The Bridgewater Canal is lined with many beautiful places to eat, with many being dog-friendly, and perfect for a pitstop on a long walk. If you’re looking for something a little more special than a pub, then George’s Dinging Room and Bar is a great option. Leopard Pie is a must-try place for pizza lovers, with their authentic wood-fired ovens giving their pies a delicious smoky taste. Tung Fong is a delicious Chinese restaurant and Jogn Gilbert is a great inn to take the whole family to.
Parks & Walks
The most popular walk in Worsley is obviously the canal, with stunning views that it’s hard to tire of. Beesley Green, Blackleach Country Park, Clifton Country Park and Worsley Woods are further green spaces to enjoy throughout the year. The beauty of these landscapes is that they change with the seasons so you’re never really looking at the same scene twice. Worsley Woods are another must-visit outside space in the area, spanning 85 acres is a beautiful woodland that’s filled with sculptures, a wildflower pathway, a brook and even a mock-Tudor house named The Aviary.
Transport
Worsley has multiple options for getting you into Manchester city centre. The number 33 bus will take you there, in around an hour, as there is multiple stops along the way. Worsley is close to the M60 and M62 for motorway connections, and you can use the A6 to get into Manchester city centre. This would typically take 20 minutes on a clear run, however, it’s likely that during peak times you will hit a lot of traffic. The nearest train station is Walkden, about a mile and a half from Worsley but here you can catch trains to the city centre, Kirkby Merseyside, Leeds, Wigan and Blackburn.
Entertainment
Worsley's entertainment lies within the beauty of its rural landscapes, allowing you to entertain yourself with picturesque walks. RHS Garden Bridgewater makes for a great day out with its stunning 154-acre green space. The fifth RHS Garden, and one of the largest gardening projects undertaken in Europe recently. This is a space you could get lost in for hours at a time enjoying the walled garden, the Chinese Streamside garden, the Paradise garden, a woodland play area, Ellesmere lake and much, much more.
