West Derby

Schools

The schools on offer in West Derby are one of the main reasons why you’ll find people looking to move into the area. There are a wide variety of both primary and secondary schools on offer. Church schools include St. Mary’s Church of England located in West Derby Village, as well as St. Paul’s Catholic School. Other primary schools include Blackmoor Park and Sanfield Park. Runnymede St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School is a highly sought-after school in the area, as it closely connected to St. Edward’s college. This school is one of the highly respected secondary schools in the whole of Liverpool with excellent results yearly. Broughton Hall Catholic High School, Holly Lodge Girls College, West Derby School and Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School are further excellent options for secondary schools in the area too.

Shopping

Independent stores in West Derby are plentiful with the cosy streets of the village intertwined with small boutiques and delicious eateries. Parks & Walks

There are plenty of playing fields in the area of West Derby, however, the most notable area hidden behind the beautiful homes of the area is the 500-acre Croxteth Country Park. Nestled within the park is Grade II listed Croxteth Hall built in 1575. Once the Molyneux family, who occupied the estate from the 16th century, had died out, they gifted the grounds to the city. As well as offering plenty of greenery, woodland areas and streams and ponds, there’s a farm to visit, a Victorian Walled Garden and the horse riding centre all within a beautiful country park that is set away from the noise of everyday life.

Transport

Situated in the East of Liverpool, it takes just a twenty-minute drive to get into the city centre. It’s close to the M62 for easy access to local areas, with Manchester just an hour’s drive away. Broad Green is the nearest train station to West Derby, 1.7 miles away from the village, this station offers rides to Lime Street, Warrington and Manchester.

Entertainment

Whilst there isn’t huge amounts of entertainment on offer in the suburb of West Derby there are some areas of interest. West Derby Village was once the site of a Motte and Bailey castle. You’ll also find the Casbah Coffee Club, the original birthplace of The Beatles. You can take tours of the place and see memorabilia of the band, as well as original John Lennon carvings on the wall. A Residents, Tenants and Business Association is designated to look after the village. The association often organises farmers' markets as well as themed fairs in December.
