Since becoming the Capital of Culture in 2008, Liverpool has had a facelift and has quickly established itself as a fantastic place to live and a fantastic location to visit.

It boasts more museums and galleries than any other UK city outside of London. Providing gorgeous architecture, more parks than Paris, friendly people, and an infectiously optimistic vibe.

If you are visiting a friend studying in Liverpool or are a Liverpool student, try out these top things to do in the city.

The Best Things to Do in Liverpool

Enjoy some Beatlesmania

Liverpool is the birthplace of The Beatles, and there are plenty of opportunities for fans to indulge in some Beatlemania. One of the most popular things to do in Liverpool is to visit The Beatles Story. It takes you on a trip through the band’s rapid climb to success, complete with memorabilia and an audio tour that takes you deep into the life of the Fab Four.

Alternatively, go to the Cavern Club, where the band performed approximately 300 times. It has also welcomed several celebrities, and there is live music every day.

If you’re a true fan, go aboard the Magical Mystery bus for a tour of the band’s old haunts, from the homes they grew up to the locations that inspired their songs.

Explore Liverpool’s music scene

The Beatles aren’t Liverpool’s only musical stars. Music is important to the city’s tradition. So much so that the city has been named a UNESCO City of Music and the World Capital of Pop.

A visit to the British Music Experience, an interactive, immersive look at how British music has affected the globe, is also strongly recommended. There’s memorabilia from the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Dusty Springfield, Oasis, and the Spice Girls, among others.

Explore the city from the water

Liverpool offers a lovely waterfront setting with Georgian architecture, listed buildings, and some of the city’s major tourist attractions. From the lake, you can see absolutely everything in the city.

Joining the Mersey Ferry’s Daily River Explorer Cruise takes you on a loop along the riverfront with wonderful views of the city’s skyline. See the Three Graces, Albert Dock, and the Liverpool Museum is a traditional Liverpool excursion. Along the way, an audio tour informs you what you’re looking at. You can get out at two points to tour a space museum or a World War II submarine.

There you have it. Our top places to visit when visiting or living in one of the UK’s most incredible cities.

Liverpool is well-known for its historic docks, landmark Liver Buildings, two football clubs, and for being the birthplace of The Beatles. It is also a fantastic city for students. Did you know that over 70,000 people opt to continue their higher education in Liverpool each year? It’s easy to understand why this international city is so popular with Liverpool students: it’s full of culture, welcoming, and vibrant.

What universities are there for Liverpool students?

The city of Liverpool is home to two prominent universities: the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, as well as the Liverpool Institute of Performing ArtsLiverpool Hope University is a newcomer to the scene, having received university status in July 2005. With all of these study options, the city is particularly student-friendly. It is a wonderful place to meet new people with similar interests.

What do Liverpool students love about the city?

Liverpool was declared the European City of Culture in 2008, and the city’s rich culture draws students from all over the world. You can’t think of Liverpool without thinking about The Beatles, who came from the city in the 1960s, performing at the world-famous Cavern Club. Today, there are Fab Four monuments and nods all throughout the city.

Liverpool’s music culture

Liverpool’s music culture is still very much alive and well today. The city’s strong musical tradition includes Gerry and The Pacemakers, Cilla Black, The Lightning Seeds, and The La’s, in addition to The Beatles. Some of the venues where these performers initially played are still in operation today, as are larger arenas such as the O2 Academy Liverpool and M&S Bank, previously known as the Echo Arena.

The Cavern Club still presents live bands, and the Arts Club on Seel Street is an excellent spot to listen to live music while eating. The ‘Bombed Out Church’ of St Luke’s, which was badly destroyed during the 1941 Blitz, is now a venue for theatre, dance, music, film, and spoken word. The award-winning Everyman & Playhouse Theatre is ideal for theatre enthusiasts.

Liverpool culture

For even more culture, visit the Tate Gallery in the Albert Docks district. You will find British art from the 16th century to the present day. Outside of London, the Walker Art Gallery has the most incredible collection of historical art. The Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King are worth visiting. They are the city’s two spectacular but quite distinct cathedrals.

Visitors can tour the building’s historic clock tower and enjoy the city views. Walking through the streets of the city, there are several buildings to admire. From its libraries to the elegant gate of its booming Chinatown. Another topic of discussion is superlambanana. This 17-foot-tall brilliant yellow monument outside LJMU’s Avril Roberts Library resembles a hybrid between a banana and a lamb. Students are likely to spend a lot of time at the Royal Albert Dock. Which is in the heart of Liverpool’s historic Waterfront and home to some of the top restaurants and pubs.

We have countless articles to help you on your student journey, whether in Liverpool, Manchester, or anywhere in the UK.

Although the quality and elegance of student accommodation has greatly improved, there is still nothing better than customising your living space. These suggestions will give you some creative ideas that will allow you to make your room seem like a home away from home.

1) Use fairy light strings to decorate your student accommodation

These rays of sunshine can go everywhere, including your headboard, bookcases, and window ledges.

Thankfully, they are now quite reasonably priced, and you can buy fairy lights from shops like Wilkos and Tesco, making it easier and less expensive than ever to decorate your student accommodation.

2) Use plants to enhance your student accommodation

The natural feel of leaves offers a beautiful aesthetic element to your space that always works with your other furniture and decorations. The world is your oyster regarding plants and bushes. You can get a wide variety in your local Tesco, Sainsbury’s, or even Aldi.

Additionally, plants can purify the air in your space. Which is beneficial, particularly when the flu is running about in the winter.

3) Decorate the walls with photographs

One of the best ways to make a space seem like home is to surround yourself with things that serve as a reminder of the people you love. Even if your accommodation prohibits using blutack or less harmful substitutes, most of them will at least provide you with a noticeboard where you can display pictures (as well as your timetable, if you must).

4) Buy more furniture

Many students think it is absurd to buy their own furniture. Especially since their housing already supplies them with everything they could possibly need. Why would you invest money in something you don’t really need?

However, as we’ve already mentioned, you can find many used items online. Having one or two pieces of your own furniture can help give your room some personality. It gives you something you can modify or upcycle to your heart’s content without worrying about losing your security deposit.

5) Add a Rug

You can make even the most drab student accommodation look better with a beautiful rug; they don’t have to be pricey. The range at Argos and Amazon is always excellent and ideal for students’ budgets. However, we advise you to choose one that will likely hold up for at least a few years.

A top-quality, fluffy rug will offer your feet that additional comfort boost in the winter, even if your student accommodation is heated. It will also make your room appear cosier after a long day at uni or out on the town.

As you can see, it’s not difficult to make your student accommodation feel more homely using simple and inexpensive materials. Hopefully, this article has given you some inspiration for those final touches!

Manchester is a huge city. Therefore you may find people who are like you (students) everywhere. Manchester student accommodation may be a fantastic choice for first-year students. We’ll go into why later in this blog, but first, let’s dive into the main Manchester student areas.

Main Manchester student accommodation areas

Manchester city centre

When living in the city centre, you’ll be closer to the campuses along Oxford Road and in the middle of the city, which is handy if you study at The University of Manchester. Private accommodation is often more expensive in the city. However, since you would save money on transportation, it could make sense for you. The centre is a popular choice for University of Salford students looking to live off campus.

Didsbury and Withington

Both areas have plenty of pubs and restaurants and are less populated by students. Withington is a great place to live as long as you don’t mind a little less hustle and bustle. On the other hand, Didsbury is better suited to young professionals and offers beautiful scenery.

Fallowfield

This is the location for you if you’re seeking a bustling student hub. Fallowfield, roughly 2.5 kilometres from the Oxford Road campuses and located just past Rusholme, is full of lively bars, cafés, and other establishments catering to students.

Elizabeth Park

This area is between the city centre and Fallowfield, right before you reach Rusholme, green Victoria Park is a good choice if you want quieter living. It is on Oxford Road near the universities and surrounded by all the activity of Curry Mile, yet it is still relatively quiet. Due to its proximity to the hospital, this is also perfect for students studying medicine.

All of these locations have direct bus routes that travel to the main university campus on Oxford Road. You will undoubtedly pass a few takeaways on the route!

Salford

With Qube Residential, our agents can help you find upscale and reasonably priced accommodation in Salford if you decide to live off campus. This area is one of the top choices for Manchester students, and for good reason! There is an endless choice of cafes, bars and restaurants, not to mention entertainment!

What about transport for Manchester student accommodation?

At first, moving about Manchester and between campuses could seem intimidating. However, a fantastic public transportation system is well-integrated, affordable, and simple to use. You will never be too far away whether you are travelling to and from lectures or exploring another area of the city.

Many young people’s lives include an exciting chapter that is university. From studying a topic they are enthusiastic about to having fun with their new friends, Liverpool students have a lot to look forward to.

Change, though, may be unsettling. Students may not have done their laundry, cooked for themselves, or cleaned up while they were in sixth form or college, but the university forces them to do these things.

Money seems to be the main concern for most aspiring students. You have come to the correct place if this applies to you.

Most people will have to pay for everything on their own for the first time at university. For many students, this may be their first time receiving a large sum of money, and we know how difficult it may be to resist spending it on things you want but may not need.

We have developed a quick Liverpool student financial guide for that starting university. Continue reading to find out more…

Why is budgeting crucial for a Liverpool student?

To survive financially while attending university, budgeting is crucial

Making a budget will enable you to distinguish between necessary and unnecessary expenses. It is easy to overpay on your wants (such as clothing, drink, and takeout) while underfunding your needs (e.g., rent, weekly food shopping and toiletries).

When you know how much you must spend on necessities, you can indulge in non-essential expenditures without running out of money.

How to figure out your budget as a Liverpool student

Budgeting is easier than you would imagine, but it’s also one of the essential things to create to stay financially afloat. This is how we recommend you determine your budget.

1. Determine your income

Calculate the amount entering your bank account as a first step. This will include any additional income sources, such as your employment salary, money from your family, grants or scholarships, and maintenance loan.

Student Finance England (SFE) will award you a maintenance loan according to your home income and unique circumstances. They will send it to your bank account at the start of each term in three instalments throughout the course of the academic year.

2. Calculate your expenses

Identifying your outgoings is the next stage. First, figure out all of your important weekly expenses, such as:

  • Rent payments
  • Groceries for the week
  • Toiletries
  • Insurance
  • Bills
  • Credit card or debt repayments
  • Phone bills
  • Transportation expenditures
  • Textbooks.

You can calculate the amount left over for non-essential expenses by deducting necessary expenses from your weekly limit. You can choose how to spend the money once you have estimated how much remains for discretionary expenditures. Non-essential purchases might include dates, clothing, takeout, movie and concert tickets, and more.

We hope this Student budget guide has been useful in helping you learn how budgeting can help you in surviving university. Good luck with your new path at university!

Liverpool is one of the largest and most well-known cities in the United Kingdom. It is rich in history and culture, a famous tourist attraction, and home to numerous colleges. If you study here, you will have the opportunity to be a part of this dynamic metropolis and experience everything it has to offer.

What draws students to Liverpool?

Liverpool is a thriving metropolis of around 500,000 people, including approximately 70,000 students. Many people want to come here for various reasons, ranging from its inexpensive cost of living to its nightlife. If you consider attending one of Liverpool’s institutions, you will be relieved to hear that the city is an excellent area for students to live in.

Cost of living in Liverpool

Everyone knows that being a student is expensive, and with university prices continually rising, this is unlikely to change. That’s before you consider housing, bills, and food, all of which are necessary for survival. If you study in London, renting a place to live is likely prohibitively expensive. On the other hand, Liverpool is one of the most affordable student cities in the United Kingdom.

Living in Liverpool is likely to be less expensive for a variety of reasons. To begin with, rent is less costly, freeing up more funds for other essentials and even entertainment. There are several discount department stores and low-cost marketplaces where you may get whatever you need at a reasonable price.

The Liverpool nightlife

Take advantage of the student discount at several nightclubs and clubs if you want to celebrate in style with live music and cocktails. They’re easy to get to, thanks to frequent buses and cheap taxis, with most venues clustered around the city centre, Baltic Triangle, and Lark Lane.

The Liverpool locals are super friendly

Although residents of Liverpool, sometimes known as Scousers, may not always receive favourable publicity, they are pleasant and extremely friendly people. You’ll quickly be welcomed into city life, with many residents on hand to help as you traverse the strange streets.

Liverpool’s culture

UNESCO designated various portions of Liverpool’s city centre as World Heritage Sites until recently, and the city remains a hub of history and culture. The Tate Liverpool art gallery and The Everyman theatre are two places you’ll want to visit. Nonetheless, there are several locations where you may enjoy live music and entertainment. After all, this is the city where the Beatles were born, so musical history is crucial here. You may also utilise the various libraries, ranging from those affiliated with institutions to the stunning Liverpool Central Library.

Sport

Liverpool’s two major football teams are Liverpool F.C. and Everton, both of which are so popular that some people would undoubtedly opt to study in here only to be closer to their favourite club! Even if you are not a football enthusiast, get ready to hear a lot about the local teams, especially when a major game and fans crowd the streets.

To excel at your university in Liverpool, you must focus intensely from time to time and increase your ability or work efficiently. There will be a lot of expectations placed on you, but don’t worry. There’s no need to be overwhelmed. We’re here to help you rise to the occasion with our suggestions for the top productivity tools every student should use.

Several digital productivity tools are available to help you achieve your goals, whether you use them to save time or keep yourself motivated. They can help you organise your notes, manage group projects, save key online articles, and keep your files in a convenient, accessible location, among other things.

Keeping notes: OneNote

This note-taking tool will let you keep all of your notes in one place and organised in distinct digital ‘notebooks.’ OneNote is part of the Office 365 package and is thus free for students; you only need a valid university email account to start.

OneNote allows you to pin multimedia elements from various digital formats, such as web pages and images. To ensure that you haven’t missed anything during a lecture, take a snapshot of the whiteboard or handouts and save it to OneNote, then scribble notes over the top using a stylus before saving it to your notebook for later revision.

OneNote is accessible on all major platforms and is for usage on any device.

For concentrating at university in Liverpool: Focus

Do you struggle with all of the distractions and interruptions that come with living in a student house? By arranging frequent breaks, you may re-train your brain to focus your attention during study sessions using the Pomodoro approach. This strategy genuinely aids in the completion of more revisions and increases productivity.

The Focus app digitises the Pomodoro technique by reminding you to take breaks and providing a timer to indicate when your next one is due. You can adjust the length of your session to suit your needs.

GoogleDrive for a file management service

You already have access to Google Drive if you have a Google account. It costs nothing to start, and the free account includes 15GB of cloud storage space, which is far more than equivalent productivity tools by Apple or Microsoft.

You can store all your information on Google Drive so that if the worst occurs and your laptop dies, your files and papers will be immediately accessible on your new computer.

If you’re working on a group assignment, you can easily share a folder or document with your study partners. If you’re using Google Sheets or Docs, you can even work on them simultaneously.

Grammarly can help with proofreading

If you write anything, Grammarly is an essential requirement; we believe it is one of the greatest productivity tools available. This simple grammar checker ensures that your spelling and grammar are right by serving as a second set of eyes and precisely checking all of your work.

Allow it to correct a written assignment, and it will find many more faults than a regular spell checker. This saves you the time it takes to sift through a document looking for flaws. It also has a powerful plagiarism checker. This notifies you if you have duplicate material by searching billions of online sites and databases.

Simply install it as a browser add-on and allow it to connect to your laptop or computer.

If you are preparing for another year at your university in Liverpool or have just started, why not try downloading these apps? We hope you find them helpful!

Our offices are based in Liverpool, with our award-winning staff to meet all of your student accommodation hunting needs. If you are interested in moving to Liverpool for uni or want to discuss your options, visit our Liverpool location today or phone us on 0151 363 6686.

We want our renters and students to achieve their maximum potential as we embrace the Post-Covid future of remote jobs and online courses in our homes/student housing. According to February 2022 National Statistics, 84% of workers who have to work from home because of the pandemic stated that they wanted to do hybrid work in the future. Working and studying at home can sometimes be challenging, but creating a dedicated routine and work area can boost productivity and motivation, whether studying or working remotely.

Declutter your Room

Living and working in the same space might be congested. To escape a cluttered room as your zoom backdrop, why not declutter your workspace/room? A tidy workstation reduces stress and boosts productivity and concentration. Throwing out stuff you don’t need or storing them in storage boxes, even under your bed, will help you make more room in your home. Making your bed and cleaning your space in the mornings makes it easy and will become second nature to you after a time.

Create a Designated Work/Study Space

Setting up a specific work area helps you separate your living and work spaces, which is especially important if you live in a studio or one-bedroom apartment. Set aside a table for working or studying, preferably near natural light, such as a window. This keeps you from falling into dangerous habits like working from your bed or sofa, blurring the line between sleep and work.

Open Your Windows when Studying at Home

Allow yourself to breathe! It might be hard to sleep and work in the same room sometimes. Opening your windows allows fresh air into your workstation and allows you to relax in compact spaces. Improving your room’s oxygen levels can also aid the brain fuel productivity while increasing your vitality and alertness. Similarly, purchasing humidifiers or air purifiers will quickly lower co2 levels and enhance humidity levels in your room.

Get Creative with Your Work Space

It is advisable to avoid a monotonous setting if you intend to work from home in the long run. Adding plants to your workplace may bring a splash of colour and boost productivity. Pinboards, mood boards, and vision boards can be visually stimulating additions to your workspace. These boards motivate you and keep you on track to achieve your personal and educational objectives.

Take a Break when Studying at Home

Take pauses, go out of your apartment, and relax. Make the most of your lunch by walking to the local coffee shop or café. Why not try something new and bring some of your work to a coffee shop? A change of scenery or dynamics might help to break up your day and keep you energetic. It can also provide you with a much-needed caffeine jolt.

We know that making the jump to living on your own for the first time can be daunting. Especially when you have the extra pressure of University. We hope you found these tips helpful for your next step into life as a student!

To help you take full use of the city’s comforts while enjoying the last of the summer days, we’ve put together a list of the top beer gardens in Manchester. Let’s dive in…

20 Stories

The top floor at No. 1 Spinningfields Tower houses Manchester’s tallest outdoor terrace, which is 19 storeys high. When night falls, firepits and couches make the rooftop bar cosy while providing stunning city views.

Find it at 1 Hardman Square, M3 3EB.

Lock 91

Lock 91, which is at the further end of the Deansgate locks, is a frequently disregarded hidden gem, and its charming beer garden is one not to miss!

Find it at 9 Century St, Manchester M3 4QL.

The Crown and Anchor

The tavern in the Northern Quarter has one of the city’s most beautiful hidden beer gardens. Bursting with greenery, the garden is secluded from anyone wandering past while remaining light and airy.

Find it at F41 Hilton Street, The Crown and Anchor, M1 2EE.

The Briton’s Protection

The oldest bar in Manchester offers a sizable variety of 300 whiskeys along with a wide range of regional beers. However, its sizable beer garden is what draws customers in the summer. The sun-trap keeps the sun for most of the day, allowing partygoers to take advantage of the pleasant weather.

Find it at 50 Great Bridgewater Street, M1 5LE.

Atlas Bar

Calling all gin enthusiasts! The 250 different gins that Atlas Bar carries may be sipped on the bar’s heated and all-weather outside patio. Consequently, you may sip gin outside any time of year.

Find it at M3 4LY Atlas Bar, 376 Deansgate.

Rain Bar

One of the biggest beer gardens in the city is within the three-story tavern, which was previously a Victorian warehouse. The two-tiered patio, which has a view of the Rochdale canal, may accommodate barbeques for special events.

Find it at 80 Great Bridgewater Street, Rain Bar, M1 5JG.

The Wharf

When the wild rush to the beer gardens starts, The Wharf, another canal-side restaurant, is a sure bet because of its expansive patio and enough outside seating.

Find it at 6 Slate Wharf, The Wharf, M15 4ST.

Sinclair’s Oyster Bar and The Old Wellington Inn

The pair, who have their headquarters in Shambles Square, represent everything we cherish about the classic English pub. The Sam Smiths pub may have the largest beer garden in the city, but because it also has some of the most affordable prices, the garden is always one of the first to get crowded on a sunny day.

Find it at 2 Cathedral Gates, M3 1SW.

Sadler’s Cat

The Sadler’s Cat, dubbed “the bar that built Manchester,” was built by a large group of volunteers over the course of ten months during a series of weekly craft workshops. Its beer garden gives the city some much-needed tranquilly with its laid-back Scandinavian vibe.

Find it at Hanover Street, M60 0AB.

To help you get through the last few months of summer and make sure you visit these top picks! Hopefully, this will help you decide where to go next time you’re craving some sunny weather, cold beer, and great pub grub!

Liverpool beer gardens are great places to enjoy a drink and some amazing food. They’re an ideal way to spend the last of these sunny summer days and offer a relaxed atmosphere, with many offering stunning views of the city. Liverpool is home to plenty of top beer gardens, but which are the top ones? We compiled an extensive list of the best beer gardens in Liverpool, which you can view below.

The Pen Factory

The presence of sunshine and fresh air were always on owner Paddy Byrne’s wish list, and everything fell into place when he reopened the Pen Factory in the Annexe, next door basement. You’ll find yourself in a lovely underground patio, a lush new beer garden world. It is easily accessible by large iron gates on Arrad Street and the more exclusive Hope Street in front.

The Monro

If the food doesn’t appeal to you, head straight towards the pub’s back and the beautiful outdoors. Ring up before you go, and a table will be set aside for you. The Monro’s unique selling point is the sun, which at the height of summer shines down on it until 9.30 p.m. Obviously, you’ll need a pint to go with that!

Ye Cracke

Ye Cracke’s beer garden has long been its major attraction. Try the wine in miniature bottles, one after the other. You’ll find that Vodka and Coke is the fanciest drink in this place. If you don’t fancy that, plenty of beer is available to keep you going. Try a pint of Black Sheep and a package of pork scratchings for your tea.

Kazimier Garden

The group behind the wildly popular Kazimier and Invisible Wind Factory brings you The Kazimier Garden. The “Kaz” Garden, sometimes imitated but never beaten, blooms year-round. A mezzanine, a wood fire, and a tonne of delicious cuisine are all available.

Oh Me Oh My

This stunning beer garden is both a famous spot and a secret area. This is one of the top vantage points in the city if you appreciate admiring the waterfront’s architecture and the most beautiful sunsets. A cocktail and beverage menu with a garden theme includes summer cups, fruit spritzers, and homemade G&T infusions.

Tempest on Tithebarn

The stunning beer garden is reminiscent of the restaurants in New York’s meatpacking district and places a strong emphasis on brunches, lunches, cocktails, and craft beer. The 10-story-tall Tempest, owned by Iain Hoskins of Ma Boyle’s, another wonderful little outdoor gem, has one of the most fantastic roof-top vistas in the city and offers breathtaking views of Liverpool in all directions. From the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus to the music and activities, which include a jazz festival in the summer, there is something for everyone.

That just about wraps up our list of the best beer gardens in Liverpool. When deciding where to try next, you only have to weigh a few factors: your budget and time, what kind of food and drink you’re looking for, etc.
